1983 - Super-Boxers

  1. I loved Super Boxers when I was a kid. I remember looking at it on the shelf of the local bookstore but never had the money to afford the $5.95 price tag (my allowance was $2 a week, and that would've meant going without new comics for 3 weeks). After it had been out a while, I was lucky enough to get it for $2 in a comic grab bag. Read it several times and was the envy of my comic collecting friends.
This is probably my favorite of all the Marvel Graphic Novel line... maybe not for the story but for the nostalgia.

  2. This came out during that golden age when graphic novels were first showing up in real honest to goodness comic book shops. This was one free of continuity that I could enjoy for what it was. I love my collection of these graphic novels. It's a shame they don't make it anymore.

  3. Hey Kal. I agree. Although I feel the current Indy stuff like The Wake or Saga are those departures from the comic book norm that these graphic novels used to be. I don't think we'll ever see the big two companies take changes like that again.

  4. This was an absolute favorite of mine back when it came out. Must have read it a dozen times over a couple of months, and my friends read it a few times, too. I remember being really taken with the "numbered graphic novel" series back then, and the sheer possibilities for brand-new stories.
