1985 - Anatomy of a cover - Marvel Age #32

  1. Paul Smith! Awesome! His take on the X-Men is still one of the best (yet overlooked) artistically. Love the 80s hairstyles there.

  2. This cover just puts a smile on my face, it really brings me back. While I've read the miniseries countless times, I'd forgotten about this cover. Gorgeous work, and Maddy's classic look and Wolverine's tree trunk of a neck make up for Kitty's and Rogue's hair

  3. It is indeed quite the hair fashion statement from the 1980s, isn't it!

  4. Such a simpler time! It was a shame Paul Smith didn't draw Alpha Flight more often. Some of the things I remember at the time was that in Alpha Flight's own book, Sasquatch had been replaced with Box, Snowbird wasn't around, Talisman had left, and Shaman was about to leave also after an incident with his medicine pouch being turned inside out. It's interesting they decided to jump back to point where Sasquatch was still around. And then a couple years later, Alpha Flight #50 used story elements from the X-Men/Alpha Flight crossover to write Northstar, Aurora, and Puck out of the book. It seemed like Alpha Flight was always losing members around this time.
