1985 - Anatomy of a cover - Incredible Hulk #314

  1. I can recall jumping from Alpha Flight to that Byrne short run on Hulk and how amazing it was. I mean the 80's leather revamped Doc Sampson, the fight with West Coast Avengers and the Hulk Buster team assembled by Banner was great. Then all the sudden Byrne is gone, Al Milgrom took over and it was a big drop off/let down. And with no internet back in the day, all the sudden comic book artist departures/arrivals were big surprises to me.

  2. Hey Matt, I felt exactly the same way. Was amazed by Byrne's short run and then it just stopped with no warning.

    1. Ah "surprise", I remember that...you got it all the time in comics when I were a lad, TV and even movies were full of it.

  3. Recall being just as shocked when he left Avengers West Coast very abruptly mid story. Caught up with his Hulk work years after they were released.

  4. Yeah, I remember that as well. It was so confusing and I kept thinking the issues were just fill ins, but then Byrne never came back...
