1984 - Anatomy of a Cover - Alpha Flight #17

  1. One of my all-time favorite covers! Great covers, and Byrne always did cool compositions for his covers.
I had just started collecting, and this issue had opened up so much history and questions for me to explore......I liked Wolverine so much more when his background was a mystery. (Same for Boba Fett).

  2. I was excited to see this cover when it came out, mainly because I recognized it as a remake of X-Men #109, which featured the classic encounter that this issue reprinted. Composition credit for this cover should probably go to Dave Cockrum, who drew the original version (Byrne even credits him next to his signature on this cover). Any chance of posting the original Cockrum version? It's interesting to note the subtle differences, especially the angle on "punched" Wolverine.
    Best,
