1980 - Dazzler revisited

Jim Shooter's blog is a wealth of information on the Marvel 1980s and he's recently posted about the origins of Dazzler (jimshooter.com).

Here are some of the more interesting Dazzler tidbits (http://www.jimshooter.com/2011/07/its-so-hard-to-get-good-help-these-days.html)

  • "At the height of the bidding war, Bo Derek decreed that her husband, John HAD to be the director.  Famous for behind-schedule, over-budget debacles, John Derek had to direct or no Bo. Every bidder withdrew."
  • Dazzler #1 ended up selling 428,000 copies.
  • You can download a copy of the Dazzler movie treatment here: http://www.illustratedmedia.com/downloads/Dazzler-Movie-Treatment-scanned.pdf

1985 - Breakdown of Marvel Subscription

Here's the breakdown of Marvel's active subscription in 1985 pulled from jimshooter.com.

Surprised to see GI Joe with that much of a lead. Alpha Flight did quite well too.
