It's funny that with the red and black it kind of looks like an evil alternate universe Fantastic Four. Blue will always be iconic, but i don't mind the colour change, though I think Reed's suit is busier than needed for a stretchy guy. Hmm...I guess green suits will be next.
There has always been something I do not completely like on Mr. Adams's style. Something about the face and hair on his characters, I guess.
But there is also something I have always liked about him, and that is his composition skills and his ability to have his characters use body language. And I can see it here, there is not a single one of those sketched covers I would not have liked. The composition for all of them works very well, and you can tell a lot about the characters from the poses he chose for each of them.
The one thing I REALLY don't like about Art Adams is that all of his women have the EXACT SAME FACE! I love his composition, I love his male characters. Truly, he'd probably be my favorite comic book artist if it weren't for the women's faces thing. It always looks like every single woman he draws is the sister of every other one. It's bizarre.
The red is an interesting choice and definitely changes the "feel" of the team as a whole.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, I wonder if someone will recolour it using their traditional colours... The red does add a darker tone.
ReplyDeleteThose new costumes ain't got no alibi...they ugly!

Hey David, you must HATE Byrne then...heroic men and women all have the same face AND body type. It's like he draws HERO and HEROINE and that's it.
ReplyDeleteHe makes every character look ten times better, he should draw all my favourite comics, he's the absolute best in my eyes.
