Liefeld may not be the worst artist in the history of comic books, but is definitely the worst artist to ever make it big. John Byrne openly called him a "terrible artist," and as mean-spirited as JB can be, I'll agree with that assessment
Hey Jason, it's a coincidence you should chose Friday to feature this piece of archetypal 90's artwork...as it happens it's the same day I did a review for Peter David's Hulk Visionaries vol.8 over at amazon UK which sum up my views on the "big guys with guns" era...
Yeah, this... this... it isn't good. It's too bad Cable had to debut this way because I think Liefeld's interpretation will be the way everyone always remembers him.
I don't think Rob Liefeld is anything like as bad as most people say he is, but... Damn! that just hurts my eyes!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, the Nineties. Makes me appreciate the Eighties all the more!
ReplyDeleteditto ejk's comment. I miss the 70s and 80s.

No disrespect intended to Rob Liefeld, I have seen some passable work from him, but this? This is hideous...
ReplyDeleteIndeed this piece is painful. His square chest defies all anatomy rules...
