  1. Love those Daredevil, X-men, Alpha Flight and FF pages.

I would add Thor 353, which I didn't realize is incredibly similar to Thor 337 (it has Thor and Loki yelling "Father" with that same great John Workman lettering).

In terms of cliffhanger goodness I would add X-men 174 (the return of Dark Phoenix?) and Daredevil 227 ("it was a nice piece of work, Kingpin, you shouldn't have signed it."). Both those pages had me desperate to grab the next issue.

I never get that feeling from today's comics. What a drag.

  2. dhole -

That's because nothing happens in today's mainstream hero comics. They're all like superhero Seinfeld episodes. A bunch of nothing.

  3. agree with dhole, the last page of EVERY issue of born again is a bona fide classic. that frank miller, he knows how to leave you hungry for more. i remember the first time i read the born again trade. after i finished the last page of the first issue (227), i had to get up and walk around for a bit to get my head straight.

  4. Daredevil Born Again is a stunning piece of work and really makes you wonder what the heck happened to Frank Miller since then...

  5. Wow, those made for some pretty compelling and emotionally driven visuals. even today great work like this is written off as pulp by most in the academic art circles. i can't imagine an actual fine arts or art history teacher ever refer this kind of stuff their students. as far as i'm concerned i'll put up the work of Mike Golden, John Byrne and Sal Buscema against the "old masters" any day of the week.

  6. Those are some awesome last pages right there... *sigh* the Avengers just doesn't feel the same without Monica in the black and white. Easily the best 'Captain Marvel' Marvel has had IMO.
