The rest of the power outage and run to find Box and the fishing expedition should have been left out. Like a nurse wouldn't do! Sloppy writing but again it seems Byrne was In a rush.

I really love Alpha Flight up until maybe #20 or thereabouts but it was still pretty good through #28. The art was light years better under him and even though he didn't particularly want to be doing the magazine, the writing was better as well. Whether or not one likes solo stories or team stories is up to an individual's tastes, but there are few who can approach Byrne when he has his mitts on a series. The greatest runs of several of the greatest comics in Marvel history are thanks to him. Avengers (East and West Coast), Fantastic Four, and X-men were all at their best when he was there. My question would be "why wouldn't anyone expect Byrne's run to be the definitive run on ANY book he was involved with?"Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14731655653200880545noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9202849355254208824.post-79410685168250141482015-02-08T22:36:55.410-05:002015-02-08T22:36:55.410-05:00The Byrne run on Alpha Flight is the definitive ve...The Byrne run on Alpha Flight is the definitive version of Alpha Flight simply because nothing to follow ever came close. Hard to believe it's been nearly 30 years now since Byrne quit the series. I stuck with the series for years after his departure, but I can't tell you much about anything during the Mantlo years (except for Scramble & Purple Girl). I guess I just liked the characters and the non-New York setting.

I always mixed feelings about Byrne's stories. I didn't find the origin stories or the "non-team" aspect very interesting. But I was a huge Byrne victim from X-Men to Lab Rats, so I bought them all. His art still looks great in the scans. If nothing else, I appreciated Byrne bringing in real world stuff like Northstar's past membership in the FLQ.

Thanks again Jef!J.A. Pages were ommited and one of the Byrne's issue was ignored, the Pink Pearl one. Very funny review ! Bring more of this in another arc of another title of the 80's. I will be there to read it.Ezequiel Siqueirahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12723297980435682413noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9202849355254208824.post-77511985970639840652015-02-07T16:26:39.798-05:002015-02-07T16:26:39.798-05:00This was a GREAT series, Jef! Thanks so much for doing it!

I haven't really had anything to add to any of the posts, since the only Alpha Flight I've read was Byrne's issue #1. But I really liked the retrospective. As always, you do great work! I can't wait to see what you tackle next!Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15304178130464809737noreply@blogger.com
